    Contractor Induction

    All Contractors are to comply with the following information provided within the IMS Contractor Induction.

  • IMS Contractor Induction

    All Contractors are to comply with the following information provided within the IMS Contractor Induction.

    • All Contractors are to sign in and out of site, via the Visitor’s Register, when visiting all IMS premises.
    • A Contractor Induction and Site Specific Workplace Familiarisation must be completed by all Contractors prior to working within all IMS premises.
    • This Contractor Induction must be read, understood and completed prior to any work being carried out by a Contractor on all IMS premises.
    • All Contractors are to read, understand and sign on to the job Job Safety Environment Analysis (JSEA) prior to commencing works.
    • All Contractors are to complete a Personal Risk Assessment (Take 5) prior to commencing works.
    • All tools, plant and equipment in the Workshop are for IMS employee use ONLY, unless otherwise authorised by IMS Management.
  • IMS Contractor Induction

    All IMS Workshops contain many inherent safety hazards, however, with the correct controls, these hazards can be eliminated, or minimised as far as is reasonably practicable.

    The Contractor Induction and Site Specific Workplace Familiarisation is intended to;

    • Assist in identifying hazards, and
    • Assist in the management of hazards, and
    • Outline essential IMS Workshop safety requirements.
  • IMS Contractor Induction

    As IMS operates over multiple facilities, a Site Specific Workplace Familiarisation will be completed for each facility.

    The Site Specific Workplace Familiarisation will provide information including, but not limited to;

    • Emergency Procedures,
    • First Aid Kit locations,
    • Emergency Assembly Area,
    • Emergency Fire Equipment locations,
    • Safety Data Sheet locations,
    • Safety Noticeboard location,
    • Isolation Points, and
    • Amenities locations.
  • IMS Workshop Rules

    1. Persons shall be familiar with the Workshop Evacuation Plan, Site Assembly Area, First Aid Kit locations, all isolation points and Firefighting Equipment locations.
    2. Persons shall have site authorisation before operating any item of plant or equipment, or complete High-Risk tasks; checks shall be made to ensure persons hold the correct, current qualification.
    3. A Take 5 Personal Risk Assessment shall be completed prior to commencing works.
    4. A Crane Lift Plan shall be completed prior to general operation of Overhead Cranes.
    5. A Job Safety Environment Analysis (JSEA) shall be carried out prior to commencing High Risk Work, including, but not limited to;
      • Work at Height,
      • Confined Space Entry,
      • Operation of Overhead Crane; Rolling items.
    6. A thorough walk around inspection shall be carried out before starting or moving an item of plant.
    7. Class 5 Hearing Protection shall be worn at all times while in IMS Workshops.
    1. All employees shall wear clear safety glasses at all times in IMS Workshops.
    2. All persons shall wear clear safety glasses at all times under there welding helmets while gouging and lancing.
    3. When working within Confined Spaces, persons shall wear goggles and correct face protection; alternatively wear Speedglas Helmet
    4. All employees shall wear at a minimum clear safety glasses and clear face shield while buffing, grinding, and burring.
    5. All personnel shall wear at a minimum clear safety glasses and tinted face shield while oxy cutting.
    6. Additional safety equipment is provided by IMS, and shall be worn when required, i.e. goggles, face shields, gloves, aprons etc.
    7. No Hard-Faced Hammers are permitted on any IMS premises. All employees and contractors are to use Soft Faced Hammers ONLY.
    8. When using a jack to raise equipment from the ground, a jack with the correct capacity shall be used (e.g. 10t, 20t, 50t etc).
    9. A safety stand with the required capacity shall be placed under raised equipment.
    1. Light vehicles shall not be parked in the laneways of the Workshop.
    2. Light vehicles shall be parked in on street, or designated carparking.
    3. All clearways marked in front of emergency equipment and electrical supply boards shall be kept clear at all times.
    4. All air and water hoses using Minsup fittings shall have safety clips fitted.
    5. All Workshop tools and equipment shall be inspected prior to use. This includes cutting and welding equipment, power tools, air tools, lifting gear, hand tools, safety stands etc.
    6. IMS Isolation Tag Procedure (IMSQ-OP-205) shall be observed when identifying defective equipment, and repairing or replacing equipment.
    7. All mains powered electrical equipment shall have a current inspection tag attached. This includes drills, grinders, extension leads and plug-in welding machines.
    8. Access ladders/steps should be used to mount and dismount machinery.
    9. No mobile phones to be used by employees within the workshop unless authorised by General Manager.

    IMS HSEQ Policy demonstrates the organisation’s commitment to providing, and maintaining a safe and healthy workplace for all employees, contractors, clients, visitors and members of the public.

     

    Our goal is to provide a safe and healthy work environment, that is free from workplace injury and illness. This will only be achieved through the participation, co-operation and commitment of EVERYBODY in the workplace

  • Risk Management 

    Current WHS Legislation requires persons who have a duty of care to ensure health and safety, to ‘manage risks’ by eliminating or minimising health and safety risks so far as is reasonably practicable.

    By managing risks in the workplace, we can prevent injuries, and incidents.

    How do we manage risks at IMS?

    IMS requires all Contractors to complete a Risk Assessment prior to commencing all tasks.

  • Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)

    PPE

    As a minimum, the following PPE MUST be worn on all IMS premises, at all times;

    • Clear safety glasses,
    • Class 5 ear plugs,
    • Steel cap boots,
    • Long trousers, and
    • Long sleeve shirt.

    Hearing Protection

    Noise induced hearing loss is quite common in noisy industries. Hearing damage can advance gradually and unnoticeably.

    Hearing protection is MANDATORY on ALL IMS premises, and is readily available to all employees.

    IMS provides the current best hearing protection available on the market; Class 5 hearing protection.

    Eye Protection

    AS/NZS rated safety glasses are offered to all employees upon commencement of employment, and MUST be worn at all times, on ALL IMS premises.

    While conducting the following tasks at IMS, grinding, lancing, buffing, or burring, double eye protection, and face protection is required to be worn.

  • Safe Work Practices

    Overhead Crane and Forklift Operation

    As a large part of your working day, you may be working near Overhead Cranes, EWP’s and Forklifts. Adhere to the following points including, but not limited to;

    • Only competent persons, who hold a current High Risk Work (HRW) Licence can operate a Forklift,
    • Only competent persons, who hold the correct Statement of Attainment or HRW Licence can operate an EWP, or Overhead Crane,
    • Licensed operators to adhere to site speed limits (5km/h),
    • Do not let a load become suspended over you,
    • Do not enter into a barricaded exclusion zone,
    • Do not stand near Forklifts, EWP’s or Cranes while operating,
    • Give way to Forklift, EWP and Crane Operations,
    • Maintain Positive Communication with operators when working nearby.
  • Safe Work Practices

    Safety Data Sheets (SDS)

    SDS’s provide the information required for the safe handling, storage and use of substances in the workplace. A product SDS should always be consulted prior to using a substance that the user is not familiar with.

    All Contractors are required to supply and provide a current SDS Register of all Hazardous Chemicals, prior to entering any IMS premises.

  • Traffic Management

    • The site speed limit on all IMS premises, for all vehicles and Mobile Plant is 5 km/h, or a walking pace.
    • All light vehicles are to be parked in either on-street parking, or designated parking spaces within IMS carpark areas.
    • Only transport vehicles shall be parked in the laneway while being loaded and unloaded.
    • As Mobile Plant operates continually throughout our premises, we ask that you remain aware of their operations, and maintain a safe distance of at least 5 metres.
    • All persons shall give way to all IMS Mobile Plant operations, unless otherwise directed by the Mobile Plant operator.
    • All persons shall remain within the designated walkways while commuting through IMS Workshops.
  • High Risk Work (HRW)

    High Risk Work activities which are conducted on IMS premises include,

    • Overhead Crane Operation,
    • Forklift Operation,
    • Working at Height,
    • Confined Space Entry.

    It is essential that ONLY competent persons operate Cranes, Scissor Lifts, and Forklifts, or Work at Height and Enter Confined Spaces.

    As per current WHS Legislation, a ‘Competent Person’ means a person who has acquired through training, qualification or experience the knowledge and skills to carry out the task.

    All IMS sites define Working at Height to be when working at, or above 1.6 metres.

    A Job Safety Environment Analysis (JSEA) MUST be completed, and signed on to prior to undertaking ALL High Risk Work.

  • Incident and Injury Reporting

    Our goal is for all persons to go home safely; the same way they came to work.

     

    We strive for

    ZERO HARM.

    If you sustain an injury, regardless of severity, notify the IMS Supervisor or WH&S Advisor, so that the injury can be assessed and treated by a qualified First Aid Officer.

    Contact details for IMS Representatives will be supplied upon arrival.

  • First Aid

    IMS stocks and maintains multiple First Aid Kits and Defibrillators within all premises.

     

    Locations of First Aid Kits and Defibrillators can be identified during Site Familiarisations.

  • Fire and Emergency Procedures, and Evacuation

    Site specific Fire and Emergency Procedures will be detailed during your workplace familiarisation.

    If there is a fire, and ONLY if it is safe to do so, extinguish the fire by way of;

    Fire Extinguisher

    Fire Hose Reel

    Fire Blanket

    In the event of an emergency evacuation, alert others in the immediate area, exit immediately, then call ‘000’, ask for the required emergency service,  and give correct details.

    • Always follow all instructions given by the Fire Wardens.
    • When evacuating the building, go to your nearest safe exit, and meet at the site Emergency Assembly Area.
    • Ensure that you are aware of all fire exits within your work area.
    • If you observe any obstructions in the way of fire exits, or fire fighting equipment, please raise your concern for immediate action by your Supervisor.
  • Isolations

    Multiple Isolation Points are located inside, and outside of all IMS facilities. Isolation Points include, but are not limited to Gas, Electrical, Compressed Air, and Water.

    Only qualified and competent persons are to conduct maintenance on all services.

    In the event of an emergency, isolate all required points correctly, and attach an ‘Out of Service Tag’ as per IMSQ-OP-205 Isolation Tag Procedure. Always test for dead.

    When completing maintenance, isolate the required points, and attach a ‘Personal Danger tag’ as per IMSQ-OP-205 Isolation Tag Procedure. Always test for dead.

    Location off all required Isolation Points to be identified during Site Specific Workplace Familiarisation.

  • Housekeeping

    Poor housekeeping

    Many slips and trips are the results of poor housekeeping, and this is often a sign of a lack of clear systems and responsibilities for storage, maintenance and cleaning. For example:

    • things spilt and left on the floor,
    • items left out or extending onto walkways or work areas,
    • flooring, carpet or mats in a poor state of repair or uneven,
    • poor or broken lighting in work areas and walkways.

    Good housekeeping

    To achieve a tidy workplace that is free from slip, trip and fall hazards, IMS provides, and expects all persons to adopt and maintain the following housekeeping rules;

    • clear, marked walkways,
    • use of suitable storage systems,
    • use of spill management systems,
    • routine and spot cleaning,
    • use of lead covers.

    As a Contractor on an IMS premises, we ask that you maintain a tidy area during works, and clean up any mess created once you have completed your works.

  • Closing Statement

    Remember;

    There is nothing so important or urgent, that it should ever compromise safety.

    • A Site Specific Workplace Familiarisation,
    • Hazards and risks inherent to IMS facilities, and control measures for associated risks,
    • Workshop Rules which must me followed,
    • Safety documents, policies, procedures and plans relevant to IMS facilities,
    • Incident, first aid, emergency, evacuation and injury reporting procedures,
    • The layout of the workplace, including safe ingress, egress and amenities.
  • Clear Signature

Founded in 2008 by Gary Brown IMS quickly grew as a leader providing onsite consultants and maintenance personnel. The doors to the first IMS facility opened in Mackay in 2011. In this time IMS have secured key knowledgeable and experienced members within the industry, all with their own speciality but we all have one thing in common…. We are all Boilermakers and are all service-driven!
